India inspired rooms?

I'd like my bedroom, connected master bath, and the living room to be indian inspired.
I was hoping that I could work with this big blue couch we already [unfortunately] own. The chair, I CAN move to another room, or maybe some other solution?? And without the people pillows of course.

youre right to worry about it looking 'cheesy', because this is a very difficult look to pull off without that happening. This is mostly true because of the bold vivid colors and shimmery fabrics; if not handled with restraint and taste, it ends up looking like a garish vegas-style themed hotel room.
Dont try to incorporate every color in the rainbow...choose a pallete, and stay within its bounds. i have several Indian friends, and none of their living spaces resembles that over-the-top style
reminiscent of a theatrical stage set. remember, you cant compress all the colors and textures of a whole ethnic group into 1 or 2 rooms.
the blue sofa could work, but pick just 2 other colors to use as accents (and graduations of the colors); for instance, you could use orange as an accent color and also peach, apricot, salmon-pink, cantaloupe. and for the second accent color, you could use purple and also mauve, lilac, eggplant, lavender.
